Some Found Cans

On one of the earliest pages I wrote for this website back in 2003 or so, I described why people just discarded their empty cans in places where people could later find them. Along these lines I've discussed "dumping" for cans outdoors. But what about cans tossed where they had some protection? Some very old cans are found in really nice condition because they were stashed someplace where they were protected from the elements, such as in a wall, under a floorboard, or in an attic. This month I have a real example, even if the cans were only three years old when I found them.

My wife and I bought our new home in early 2019. Built in 1959 the house was expanded in 2003 and a new deck was added. The couple were bought the house from included a caterer and they entertained a LOT so we've been finding all sorts of things tucked away from parties: paper plates, cups, bottles, a wristwatch, even a lacy bra between couch cushions.

I found these four cans, along with some water bottles, tucked wayyyyyyyy under the stairs to the deck. Whether they were stashed there deliberately or blew there I don't know, but they were well under the stairs out of sight. Alas, they are only from 2017, but if I hadn't gone looking under the stairs deliberately to see what was there I never would have found them. Of course, this makes me wonder what's in my attic or in my walls. Maybe some nice-condition cans from 1959 await me still!
